Term 2 Week 7 10/6/2024 - 14/6/2024
From the Principal's Desk
Greetings Parents, Caregivers and Whanau, Week 7, Friday 14th of June 2024
Health and Safety
This is a key focus at the moment as we get a variety of jobs done around the school and we implement new processes and strategies to improve in several areas. Health and Safety is everyone's responsibility and works best when we all follow the expectations and rules. Please be aware we need to complete police vetting on all parents/community who are working with our students. This is as easy as contacting Donna to get the paperwork and sending it in.
On trips, we (The school) will also need to see the vehicle's up-to-date WOF and Registration before taking students on trips. We are keeping a register so we will only have to do this once a year.
Winter blues
At this time of the year we need to remember good hygiene with the common cold and other bugs during winter.
- Wash hands before eating
- If you have to blow your nose or cough try to do this into tissue. Then dispose of tissues in the rubbish.
- If sick try to stay home and rest
- Let us know if your child is sick, this makes the absence justifiable.
Surveys -Have your say and get these in.
The new survey is simple either Yes or No - for a uniform? 1 vote per family, should be in the newsletter. With 1 week to go the votes are split, get your vote in to make a difference.
Trips to Whitianga next week
As a school, we are fortunate to go on a LEOTC - Learning Experiences Outside The Classroom. Thanks to all the teachers for organising these trips to give our students outstanding opportunities.
Jump in June and Jumping into July
On Wednesday 3rd of July from 2 pm - Please join us for the fun! we will be running a fundraiser for the Heart Foundation, We will be Skipping for fun, gaining sponsors and improving our fitness skills in June. Please see the brochure for your child/family. All money gets directed into an online banking system and no physical money has to be collected or brought into school. Each child has an account that gets set up.
Update on new Website and Skool loop App
This is getting the final work completed, photos and videos uploaded and the final checks at a school, BOT and community level. The Grand opening is on the 3rd of July! Part of this process is uploading the Skool Loop App, so we can continue to improve communication.

U8s Football Report
What an awesome morning the U8’s had last Saturday, filled with lots of games and fun at the Tairua Soccer Festival! It was our first festival of the season and we entered three teams who all gave it there best and had a ball doing it. Every player deserved to get a certificate for all the skills, team work and incredible effort they put in (improving amazingly after each game, we played 4 games each team) but big congratulations went to player of the days Jake, Tanner, Fleur, Jack, Kassi and Ashton. And congratulations to our player of the Tournament’s Kate, Arlo and Verity. Thank you to all the parent support with having three teams and a special mention to Anna, Alana and Matt who helped us run the teams so Rewi our amazing coach could go around all the teams. We can’t wait for the next festival in August in Whitianga!
Last Saturday we played over in Thames, was a beautiful morning and we were up against tough opposition once again. Our team played with so much passion and energy this week and were putting a lot of what we’ve been working on at training to use but couldn’t quite come away with a win this time round. Amazing effort from all of you! The scoreboard really didn’t reflect how even the game was. The girls taking away players of the day, well done Noa and Val!
ICE SKATING EXPERIENCE
From the 18-20th June, we have been offered an amazing opportunity to take our students to a temporary ice skating rink in Whitianga situated between the Museum and Fishing Club.
The surface is not cold but skates like ice. The lessons are 45 minutes and include a safety briefing and getting skates on and off. Please see the timetable below.
Cost: The cost for each child is $9. The school will subsidise each entry by $4 (Thank you to the Fundraising Committee), making the cost $5 for each child. Permission forms will be sent home next Wednesday.

Safety - In and around the carparks
The BOT has gained a registered report - Traffic Management Recommendations on the areas we need to fix as a school and what Kotahi Waka need to do. This is being followed up as an area of urgency. A copy of this report defines the changes required for safety and is available for viewing from the office.
PLEASE NOTE
Safety is everyone's responsibility. The drop-off area is exactly that, a drop-off only.
Only enter the car parking near the front entrance gate; everyone must drive slowly down to park near the field and leave at the far end only.
Everyone helps to keep our students and community safe. We are growing the "Green" and building a Positive Culture 4 Learning.
