Term 3, Week 10 23/9/2024 - 27/9/2024
From the Principal's Desk
Greetings Parents, Caregivers and Whanau, Week 10, 23rd September 2024
Again I have been very impressed with the students and how they demonstrate the "K.I.T.E" values.
- Kindness
- Innovative
- Trustworthy
- Enthusiastic
A huge thanks to our amazing teaching team who ensure all our children feel safe and looked after at school and work hard to improve student achievement. Please see the insert on results from mid-year and what we will be implementing in term 4 to continue improvements. As parents please continue the great work over the holidays, by reading with your children, playing maths games and having fun with your whanau.
Property and work updates
Our lighting, electrical and acoustics in the classes and outside security lighting have been upgraded. Our Whanau room - Learning Support Coordinator Space (room next to the staffroom) is nearing completion.
During the first week of the holidays, we have all roofs being looked at and fixed in areas, with larger flashings and extra roofing in areas, including new downpipes and re-direction of water away from buildings. During this process, there will be scaffolding and workers in the school. Please keep away from these areas.
In the second week, we have all carpets in the school being checked- assessed and ultimately replaced in the future.
Quotes/Estimates needed
The following are our projects on the near horizon - Term 4 or in the holidays for completion. If you are a tradesperson interested in the work please send an email to principal@whenuakite.school.nz.
- Decking projects
- Re-configuration of office/admin desk area
- Adding an internal wall/door for a classroom.
- Changing out windows (5) for bifold or stacker doors
- Fencing
Enrolments for 2025
In 2025 we have 7 classes and we are working on the best possible balance for each class. As we have predicted the roll to sit around 150 students for the next few years we do have spaces for students out of our enrolment scheme area. If you are interested in coming to our school, please request an enrollment pack from the office and visit our amazing school. I am more than happy to show you around and to look at our achievements.

Hot Shotz at the Disco
We knew it was going to be an awesome disco when the dinosaur walked in! A few containers were left at the disco, these can be collected from the staffroom.
Pet Day
We were all very excited on Monday for our special Pet and AG day. Well done to all students who had a pet or animal during the day. Graham and I were very impressed with the standard and the hard work the students put into the day.

Environmental Projects
The students are working with Ngaire on Wednesdays to create new gardens around the school. At the moment room 2 and 6 are working together to plant fruit trees near the hens, we will then fence this area so the hens can roam and enjoy some fresh grass and bugs. A big thank you to Kelly and Isla Walker for collecting and bagging up Fire-crackers fertiliser for our gardens.

Welcome Whaea Cassie
Kia Ora Koutou Katoa
I am very excited to be joining the team at Whenuakite School in term 4 in the capacity of a student teacher. I am in the final stages of my primary teaching studies through Waikato University and am feeling very lucky to have the opportunity to complete my journey as a student under the guidance of Mrs. Paige Bailey in the year 6 and 7 classroom.
My former study was in the field of Environmental Science, so naturally I have a passion for science, sustainability, and outdoor education. Another area of the curriculum which I hold dear is health and physical education, and am particularly passionate about the holistic approach to health and using the Hauora model as a philosophy to promote the well-being of students.
My family and I reside in Tairua. I have four children aged 4, 9, 11, and 12 and I have worked at Tairua Primary for the last 5 years as a Teacher Aide, which has given me experience in working with a diverse range of students with varying learning needs and abilities.
While Whenuakite is only down the road, I must admit that I don’t know very much about the community and am really looking forward to getting to know the area and the people, and establishing meaningful relationships with the tamariki of Whenuakite School.
See you all next term!
Ngā mihi
