Term 4, Week 2 21/10/2024 - 25/10/2024
From the Principal's Desk
Greetings Parents, Caregivers and Whanau, Week 2, 25th of October 2024
Again welcome to the new students and thank you to all the amazing students who welcome our new friends to our school. The teachers appreciate the kindness that you demonstrate to others at our school. This week I have taken our student leaders to the Coromandel wharf to visit the Deodar, Coast Guard and Harbourmaster Vessels, and the Police Maritime Unit for the children to board and ask questions. A huge thanks to Brian Connors our police community Officer for organising this event for us. Brian will be back in our school soon to meet with all classes and help train our bus monitors for 2025.
Attendance and Engagement - If your child is going to be away contact the office, legally we do need to know why they are away. Attendance = Achievement. Improvement is needed so we can support children to do their personal best! Please let us know if we can help your child be at school on a more regular basis. This is a critical area in which we need to start seeing improvements. From next week I will be contacting whanau to check in on why some students are away. what can we do together to improve this area?
🌞 Summer time – As we move into the warmer parts of the year, could all students please bring a spare named hat to school for break time play. Every class has sunscreen that is optional and we recommend that students choose the right options with some play undercover during the hottest parts of the day.

The last quotes for the carparking upgrades and the design drawings will be out for consultation and feedback. While we are going through this process we are painting the yellow lines in- This is clearly NO PARKING AT ALL TIMES. We have have removed some of the safety bollards along the front car parking hedge so cars will be able to park and then exit straight onto the main road. However please ensure all passengers get into cars from the passenger side by the fence, be very careful when you turn out onto the road.

Hahei Library
Come Join Our Library!
The Florence Harsant Community Library in Hahei
The late Florence Harsant is well known for starting the wonderful community library that bears her name in the village of Hahei. The Hahei Library is located adjacent to the Hahei Community Centre at 52 Hahei Beach Road, Hahei and is now run by volunteers and open 6 days a week (Monday – Saturday) from 10am to 12pm.
We are very proud of our library, which has some 11,000 books; General Fiction, Thrillers/Mysteries, History, New Zealand authors, Biographies, Gardening, Cooking, Travel and much more. We also have a huge Children’s and Young Adult Library which includes books by local Coromandel Peninsula authors and illustrators.
We regularly purchase new books for both children and adults, with the help of reviews, requests and recommendations. Our members and the wider community kindly donate books throughout the year that we add to the library or sell in our books sales.
We welcome all resident and ratepayers from the Mercury Bay South area (Hahei, Cooks Beach, Hot Water Beach, Whenuakite, Boat Harbour and surrounding areas) to visit and join our library. Membership is just an annual fee (1 June - 31 May) of just $20 for the entire household.
