Term 1, Week 7 17/3/2025 - 21/3/2025
From the Principal's Desk
Kia ora Kotou katoa, greetings to parents and caregivers,
Rippa Rugby
Well done to all the students and supporters who went to the Rippa Rugby at Te Aroha. Again a well run event so a big thanks to the teachers for organising. I enjoyed watching from the Silver Fern Farms Event Centre where I was doing some professional learning and development, but to be honest I spent most of the time watching the Rippa.
Hockey
The Thames Hockey Association was so impressed with how well we did at the "Give It a Go day", that they will be supporting us to see if there is an interest in hockey this way and to possibly run some games on our turf playing against other close-by schools. Next Tuesday we would like to welcome and thank Laura Stephenson who is coming to teach us some more skills, and play some games and activities. If parents could ensure that their child has suitable footwear - covered shoes for the day. The students who have mouthguards and shin pads please also bring these.
School and Community Minivan
Our new 2025 Hiace Minivan should arrive around the 28th of July! Our fundraising efforts have started! Thanks to some parents and students who have already sold 230 raffle tickets at the Kabuta Fishing Competition. Below is the information in regards to the raffle, next week we will be sending home packs for families to help support the selling. If families also know businesses that the tickets could be sold at please let us know.
Future dates and events for term 2
We are already in the process of planning term 2. In term 2 we will be focusing on the "Cool Schools and Community" programme, This is run by the Peace Foundation. We have a Teacher Only Day on Friday 30th of May 2025. Parents and the community are more than welcome to join us, just rsvp to principal@whenuakite.school.nz
Thanks, Nga mihi Gary Veysi - Principal

Volunteer Opportunity: Fundraiser Coordinator for School Minivan Raffle
Are you a community-minded individual looking to make a difference? Our school is fundraising for a much-needed new minivan, and we need a dedicated Fundraiser Coordinator to help ensure the success of our raffle!
What’s involved?
- Coordinating the distribution of raffle books to families.
- Collecting and tracking returned books and funds.
- Banking the money (or passing it to a committee member).
- Following up on any outstanding books before the draw date.
This is a great opportunity to support the school, meet other parents, and play a key role in a fantastic cause.
No previous experience is required—just good a willingness to help!
If you’re interested or want to learn more, please contact Tracey on 0274773350. Let’s make this fundraiser a success together!
